What This Position Is All About:

The Benefits Specialist is responsible for supporting the Benefits Manager with the delivery of a wide variety of employee benefits, policies, and programs, through coaching and supporting stakeholders, building both internal and external vendor relationships, and the administration of HBC Benefit and Associate Discount Programs.

The position will support and/or participate in the implementation of technology, plays a lead role in the research, analysis, and development of benefits policies and programs. Regular audits and quality improvement activities are an integral part of the responsibilities


Who You Are:
  • Bilingualism (French/English) a definite asset

  • Dynamic, creative, and a self-starter 

  • Customer service obsessed attitude 

  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team 

  • Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational, time management and communication skills


You Also Have:
  • Bachelor’s – 4 year degree (preferably in Business or Human Resources) or work equivalency
  • Three or more years of experience administering group benefit plans, including experience with STD/LTD case management and return to work programs
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Experience running queries, and creating pivot tables
  • Superior analytical, research, and problem solving skills

As The Benefit Specialist, You Will:

  • Responsible for research, analysis and resolving HBC Benefit and Associate Discount Programs issues while ensuring compliance with Federal and Provincial laws and regulations which impact the programs and policies
  • Provide ongoing support to HR teams in HBC Benefit and Associate Discount policies and procedures as well as develop, review and update Associate booklets, handouts, information sheets, FAQs and templates
  • Work with external vendors on an ongoing basis to discuss best practices, and service level reviews
  • Stay abreast of current trends and regulatory issues surrounding benefit plan design, administration, and compliance
  • Participate in process improvements and/or projects that will improve the overall business performance and mitigate risk, while driving efficiencies
  • Annual Benefits renewal, implementation and system testing support, as required

  • Actively participate in various other benefits projects
