Role Summary

The Director of Marketing Systems will be responsible for the development and management of marketing and CRM related systems in support of all banners at HBC.  The role is a technology role with responsibility for development and maintenance of existing applications, integrations, and data, as well as product management role with responsibility to understand the marketing technology landscape in order to lead technology strategy, vendor strategy and project execution. In addition, in partnership with senior marketing leaders this individual will lead development of technology roadmaps leveraging both internal and 3rd party technology that will enable the marketing strategy tied to each operating company.  This role will closely partner with the Data Innovation team to ensure that the marketing technology strategy incorporates a strong data focus.  A background in application development and integration along with industry knowledge in the domains of broad web/mobile marketing and analytics, advertising and promotion, email and content marketing, social media marketing platforms, CRM and customer master data management.

  • Oversee the development and management of marketing and CRM related applications, integrations, and data.  Ensure the integrity of data, scalability and supportability of applications, and alignment to overall business strategy.


  • Work closely with Project Managers to ensure that projects are proceeding according to schedule and meeting functional and design specifications. Participate in Design, Development, Quality Assurance, and UAT cycles and sign off on all development projects before “go live” implementation.


  • Manage feedback cycle from business operations to production support teams to project teams so that the systems are continually being improved and defects being fixed.


  • Partner with banner business owners to assemble and prioritize strategic technology roadmap initiatives specific to the banner of business, as well as incorporating companywide objectives into the plan.


  • Maintain a level of advanced knowledge of the marketing technology domain through research, vendor workshops, conferences, and hands on experience.


Educational and Professional Requirements

Below are the professional requirements for this position, including years of experience, level of education, special certifications/designation or licenses; job specific knowledge and abilities, general business acumen, technical or other skills such as position specific software, other required skills.

  • Advanced knowledge in Digital Marketing, Advertising, CRM, data management and marketing analytics.

  • Understands business processes and KPI’s  associated with digital marketing, campaign management, advertising, social media marketing, data management and quality related to customer and CRM, for both web and mobile technology platforms.

  • Understands the jobs associated with these functions at the lowest level as well as at the executive level such that requirements can be developed for all levels of the organization.

  • Familiarty with the unique variations of marketing across different business models, specifically 3 different multi-billion dollar businesses comprising department store, luxury full-price and luxury off-price.  Able to drive consensus on technology recommendations to support each of these different businesses.

  • 7 or more years of experience in digital marketing technology

  • 5 or more years of experience in creating scope documents, functional business requirement specifications and use cases.

  • Bachelor’s degree.

  • Experience with multiple software development methodologies, including legacy waterfall, and agile methods

  • Proficient with Optimizely analytics platform, Adobe, other marketing technology tools, Excel, PowerPoint,
